Private 5G wireless network deployments should be simple, reliable, and secure. To streamline installation and management, these networks must offer plug-and-play configuration, seamlessly interoperate with new or existing components, and integrate smoothly with network operations centers (NOCs). Private 5G must also deliver reliable, high-speed connectivity and comply with evolving industry standards, regulatory requirements like E911 and WEA, and the Trade Agreements Act (TAA). Additionally, end-to-end encryption and mutual authentication are essential to secure wireless communication between 5G cores, the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) Spectrum Access System (SAS), radios, and devices.

A thriving, collaborative industry ecosystem is crucial for private 5G wireless networks, as it encourages interoperability and helps create differentiated solutions to more precisely match customer needs. This approach provides a wider range of simple, integrated private 5G network options at various performance and price points while preventing proprietary lock-ins. It allows each vendor to focus on optimizing specific network components and collaborate on turn-key solutions that enable system integrators (SIs) and managed service providers (MSPs) to deliver differentiated solutions and services to enterprises of all types.

With interoperability at the forefront, MosoNetworks collaborates with partners and customers to support an expanding array of mission-critical applications. In this article, we explore how MosoNetworks simplifies 5G core interoperability, seamlessly integrates devices with different NOCs, and uses multi-operator core network (MOCN) gateways to enable neutral host networks. Additionally, we discuss MosoNetworks’ recently announced partnerships with Ataya, Ecrio, and TorkHub, highlighting new access points (APs), a unified communications and data collection platform, and low-latency, high-upstream capacity communication for in-car telemetry and live video streaming.

Solving 5G Core Interoperability Challenges

Many enterprises and organizations struggle to plan, design, and deploy private cellular networks. One key challenge that slows private network evaluation and adoption is radios that aren’t pre-tested, pre-integrated, or verified for vendor-specific 5G cores. MosoNetworks addresses this challenge with pre-configured plug-and-play Canopy radio kits that are verified for multiple core vendors. These out-of-the-box kits effectively eliminate integration complexity, minimize in-field engineering efforts, and significantly accelerate private 5G wireless network evaluation and deployment.

Figure 1: The Moso Canopy 5G Outdoor radio (5GOD1) supports 3GPP-compliant 5G SA NR and RedCap (Reduced Capability) for bands n48, n78, and n77 with 100MHz bandwidth capability.

To standardize Moso Canopy radio configurations and verify firmware compatibility, MosoNetworks closely collaborates with industry-leading 5G core providers, including Ataya Networks, Druid Software, Highway9, HPE/Athonet, Pente Networks, and Monogoto. With Moso Control, our RAN automation and management platform, MosoNetworks can remotely configure and update radios for instant connectivity with the 5G core, ensuring seamless interoperability and compliance with evolving 3GPP standards.

Seamless NOC Integration with Northbound APIs

Northbound APIs make it easy for enterprises and organizations to integrate MosoNetworks’ Moso Control with both in-house and partner company NOC solutions.

Moso Control simplifies installation with zero-touch radio provisioning and supports proactive monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) to meet customer service level agreements (SLAs). Featuring an integrated CBRS Domain Proxy to manage network spectrum grants, Moso Control provides optimal visibility and control over spectrum allocation while operating as a secure intermediary between the radio and SAS.

Delivering Multiple Carrier Connectivity with MOCN-based Neutral Host Networks

Neutral host CBRS networks enable organizations to offer multi-carrier coverage where it is needed using a single radio network they own or host. Compared to DAS, these networks offer a simpler, faster deployment option for multi-carrier connectivity while eliminating dead spots for consumer cellular devices. MOCN gateways allow mobile network operators (MNOs) to efficiently, cost-effectively, and securely share this RAN infrastructure for neutral host networks.

MOCN-based neutral host networks must meet specific MNO and regulatory requirements. However, MOCN operation, deployment, and management standards are still developing across the industry. Together with partners like Druid and Highway 9, MosoNetworks leads various MOCN interoperability initiatives, conducting extensive in-house and customer testing to deliver out-of-the-box compatibility with gateways and provide connectivity to multiple carriers.

Unlocking New Use Cases with the MosoNetworks Partner Ecosystem

By driving innovation within our extensive partner ecosystem, MosoNetworks accelerates the deployment of simple, reliable, and secure private 5G wireless networks. Additional key industry partnerships and products include:

  • MosoNetworks and Ataya: Developing a lineup of new Chorus-powered APs for outdoor parking lots, gas stations, retail kiosks, and smart agriculture. By splitting the 5G core between the AP and cloud, these devices enable zero-touch plug-and-play provisioning, low latency, and seamless integration with cloud-managed platforms.
  • MosoNetworks and Ecrio: Delivering unified mission-critical communications and data collection solutions for Industry 4.0 deployments. These solutions support a wide range of applications, including perimeter surveillance, worker safety, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and IoT sensors.
  • MosoNetworks and TorkHub: Collaborating on a private 5G network for the Formula Drift series to provide low-latency, high-upstream capacity communication for in-car telemetry and live video streaming. This initiative is expected to transform motorsports fan experiences both on-site and through second-screen apps.
